Happy July 2nd! Free Pocket-Size Declaration of Independence!

Published by allykat at 9:32 pm under America Edit This

No Taxation without Representation! America wanted to run their own affairs. Americans did not want to be taxed without representation in the British Parliament. America wanted independence from Great Britain. It was on July 2nd that all 12 colonies voted for independence from Great Britain. One man, Casey Rodney, “…suffering from a serious facial cancer and afflicted with asthma rode 80 miles through the rain and a lightening storm arriving in time to break the Delaware 1 to 1 deadlock by casting the third vote for independence.”

John Adams wrote to his wife about how, On July 2, 1776 the Association known as United Colonies of America officially became the United States of America.“ John Adams thought that July 2nd would be celebrated by future generations and that It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.”

The Declaration of Independence!

Notice John Adams mentions Illuminations, which are fireworks! May fireworks live on and may you have the freedom to enjoy an spectacular show this 4th of July! I had to mention this based on my post from yesterday.

However, the Declaration of Independence was Proclaimed on July 4th. The Declaration was actually not officially ready to be signed by 56 brave delegates, until August 2nd, 1776.

Each state decided how to distribute copies of Declaration of Independence to its’ citizens. Some choose newspapers while others order the official State Broadsides to be printed from the Dunlap Declaration of Independence. The Broadsides were put up on walls of churches and other meeting places for everybody to read.

I urge everybody to read the Declaration of Independence on or around the 4th of July with your family and friends!
