Happy July 30th! In God We Trust!
Today, July 30, is the day that “In God We Trust” was made the United States national motto! President Eisenhower said it should be the motto of our nation in 1956.
And a law was made a year earlier in 1955, that “In God We Trust” should be on All of America’s currency. This motto was made a law on currency by the 84th congress and President Eisenhower as a joint resolution because of the recent Cold War. During the Cold War Communism wanted to destroy America and our Freedoms! Putting trust in God allowed America to prevail! America needed God then and now!
This motto appeared on coins way before 1956, just not on all coins. It was placed on coins during the civil war as a religious sentiment. They believed that especially during times of war that God is needed.
“This would make a beautiful coin, to which no possible citizen could object. This would relieve us from the ignominy of heathenism. This would place us openly under the Divine protection we have personally claimed. From my hearth I have felt our national shame in disowning God as not the least of our present national disasters,” by Secretary Chase by Rev. M. R. Watkinson, Minister of the Gospel from Ridleyville, Pennsylvania. (U.S. Treasury )
Many people think that “In God We Trust” and “Under God” from the pledge of allegiance should be taken out, because it is against separation of church and state. Some people even black out the “In God We Trust” on their money, which may be illegal. I do not understand why people think the motto has anything to do with pushing a religion on somebody else.
It is a sentimental motto for the belief in America and America‘s history. Our nation was built on freedoms and God. And our founding fathers came here because they did not want to be persecuted for their religious beliefs. This motto is not persecuting anyone. It is freedom to believe in any God you choose or not. May we always remember “In God We Trust” on July 30th, and may it always stay on America’s currency!
God Bless America!
“The fear of man brings a snare: but whoever puts his trust in the LORD shall be safe” (Proverbs 29:25 NKJV).

Fifty-two is a good age to retire. Someone should let McCain know too.
The reason we (and by “we,” I of course mean Batman fans) don’t like the phrase is not because our forefathers directly stated their wish for a separation between church and state, or because it offends religions other than monotheistic ones, or because “trust” is too vague a word when dealing with something as big as God. The reason we wish to ex-communicate God from our currency is the fact that the phrase implies that all of America’s good fortune is attributed to a possibly-existent, omnipresent, all-knowing being rather than the blood, sweat, and tears of caring and hard-working Americans.
“I decided early that I would never take a life. Right around the time I decided that I wanted to live. It wasn’t an arbitrary decision and it was more than moral. It’s about identity. As long as you can choose that, choose who you are in the world… you can choose to call yourself sane.” (Batman “Gazing Back”).
“In God we trust” to me just has most to do with our intuitive belief or even personal knowledge that our lives can have purpose and direction. Belief is God is not, as atheists think, a belief in a magical man in the sky. That is the fallacy of the atheist argument. Further, I feel that anybody who blacks out his/her money has a creepy fear of God that opposes the logic atheists claim to uphold.
