Sarah Palin Won the Vice Presidential Debate!

Published by allykat at 8:57 pm under Sarah Palin Edit This

Sarah Palin did awesome tonight! She is so easy-going and confidant. I think she really connects to the American people. The way she speaks is very different than other politicians, she is a plain straight talker. Sarah Palin is very intelligent, but the way she speaks really speaks to everybody and is authentic.

I thought Sarah Palin did good by mentioning that the Obama ticket keeps going back to the past whenever they trash the Bush administration and how they are not Bush. Well McCain and Palin are not Bush either, they are different people. And the Obama ticket is so negative, all they do is focus on the past and claim they will change America for the better.

John Biden made some serious factual misrepresentations in the debate about John McCain. For example, Obama did say he would sit down with the President of Iran without preconditions. McCain did not vote the same way on the budget resolution, McCain voted no for tax increases and Obama voted yes. John McCain never voted on tax increases on those making over $42,000. Biden said we are spending as much as 3 weeks in Iraq as we have in 7 years in Afghanistan, not true. Obama voted No on funding troops and McCain voted Yes. Biden said article one in the constitution refers to the executive branch, but really if refers to the legislative branch. McCain did not oppose Clinton on Bosnia. There were several other unarguable facts that Biden threw out that were not true.

John Biden was on the attack often and appeared kind of mean like always.

Sarah Palin appeared very happy and she won the Vice Presidential Debate!

    Few things.

    1) For a pretend pundit, you should know the name of both candidates.

    2) Why do conservatives deplore intelligence?

    3) Why is it a victory when she provided no clear answer to any question?

    4) Why is it a good thing to aspire to expanding the powers of the Vice Presidency more than even that of Dick Cheney?

    5) Why couldn’t she provide a coherent answer regarding John McCain’s record?

Palin was not a good debater and came off as plagarizing alot of Biden’s answers. Mentioning Bush isn’t about the past, the man is still our president. She lacked details, the country isn’t just about energy it’s also about the economy and national security. Biden won hands down!

First let me say I am not a McCain or Palin fan at all. And even though I do not think she has the intelligence or experience to be Vice President I thought she did well tonight in that she was able to hold her own unlike she did during the Couric and Gibson interviews. I think her “folksy” talk may appeal to some people. For me, I rather someone who knows the issues and is serious about what is going on in this country. All in all, Biden obviously was the winner and I beg to differ that he acted mean as you suggest. He ran the gamut of serious when talking about serious issues, smiling and laughing when appropriate and honest and emotional when talking of his family. That to me is not mean, but honest and real, unlike McCain and Ms. Soccer Mom.

    Biden got 3 major knockouts.

1: when palin said that taxing 250k up would destroy the economy, and hurt small businesses, therefore creating less jobs. Then biden said that 98% of small businesses make less than 250k a year, and will not recieve tax increases, and will get tax cuts instead helping stimulate the economy and creating new jobs.

2: when palin said that mccain was going to “deregulate” health care and give 5k back to the people for healthcare, then biden said how 5k is nothing, it costs about 12k a year for health care, and the 5k comes from extra taxes on benefiets, and he went on some more don’t remember the specifics, but then he said that that was the ultimate bridge to nowhere. He completely owned her on that speech

3: when palin thought he wouldnt understand what it was like to raise a child who might not make it, and he talked about his child and wife who died and he had to raise his 2 sons alone, and how he knew what it was like to have a child who might not make it, and he was getting all choked up, but at the same time owned her argument.

    - Yes, Obama said he would sit down Ahmadinejad, are you trying to use a fact that Obama would acknowledge as an attack? This was also addressed in the debate very properly, though you had to be listening to what Biden was saying….

-Obama did not vote yes to increasing taxes on those making $42,000 - http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/more_tax_deceptions.html

-you’re right about Biden being wrong about Afghanistan - the true figures are 11.8 billion in Afghanistan, 8.4 billion in iraq.

    - yes, article one of the constitution refers to the legislative branch, though what Biden said concerned article one’s definition of the vice president’s role in relation to the senate.

-prior to 1996, McCain opposed Clinton on Bosnia

Really, how do you feel alright with yourself when you care so little about the facts?

Though I am noticing a trend - the minority of people that somehow believe that Palin won the debate couldn’t care less about facts. Even the majority of fox news contributors believe that Biden won.

I feel a little better knowing that the other commenters on this post were watching the same debate I was.

Sarah Palin avoided answering questions she didn’t know the answers to (or forgot to memorize), even directly saying, “I’m not going to answer that.”

She was folksy, I’ll give you that, and this is definitely the direction the red team will be taking with her from now on (correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe she said she’d take no more interviews). The problem is, we’ve already had a Joe Six-Pack in the White House and his name is George W. Bush. Remember how great that worked out?

  9. katieanneon 03 Oct 2008 at 12:45 am edit this

If folksy avoidance of issues she wasn’t clear about were the bar then yup I agree Palin won hands down - but then there are a lot of other hockey moms out there who probably have a far better grip on the national and international situation than Palin and who would do a much better job at being VP! She was annoying and condescending of the US public she’s supposedly representing. Her attitude comes across not as being one of the people, but being the tolerant indulging parent of the people.

Otherwise, I’m so thankful to the other replies here because when I read the post I thought I’d watched a different program - especially as this is the only place that I’ve seen Palin cited as winner of the debate (of course I don’t watch Repuli-Fox News.

Joe Biden gave a lot of mis-information. He even got the info wrong about our constitution. He should have stuck more to being Joe Biden and not gotten mired down in the lies of the Obama campaign. Sarah Palin was charming and witty and, yes, she won the debate. Biden was longwinded and boring. My favorite part was when he mentioned that Obama, as president, wouldn’t make any major decision without him in the room. LOL!

I dont care what anyone says. I love Sarah Palin. I find her charming, charismatic, and simply adorable! She talks to the people and is someone we can relate to. She is the kind of person that you can trust.
There have been MANY times that I myself have said, “Im not going to answer that” or “Im not going to talk about that”. This simply means “Im not going to stoop to your level, nice try”.
She is a true American and a wonderful woman. McCain made an EXCELLENT choice! I LOVE HER!
And if I went for girls, I’d be ALL over that! LOL

GOVERNOR PALIN is ‘real’, and Americans could feel it and connect with it. Palin is running for V.P … but, let’s take a look at the qualifications, judgement, and experience of Obama, who is running for President. Obama had 25 years to fulfill the potential he displayed as a rising start at Harvard Law School … and, how did he live up to that potential? He chose to align himself with anti-American racist, Jeremiah Wright for TWENTY YEARS … along with Ferrahkan, Rezko, Ayers, and others. As a community organizer, he registered thousands of voters in Chicago … then, when he ran for the state legislature, he took away their votes, by disqualifying his opponent (a black woman) on a technicality. As a U.S. Senator, he voted present 160 times … he never called a meeting on the Afghanistan committee he chaired (although he NOW says we must shift all our military from Iraq to Afghanistan). He claimed Foreign Policy experience from a 9 day whirlwind photo op to 6 countries. And, he spent almost half of his tenure neglecting his responsibilities as a U.S. Senator, so he could run for President. Senator McCain served America honorably for 22 years in the military. He proved his love for America, as well as his honor, integrity and character, by refusing early release as a P.O.W., even while being tortured. He served America as a ‘contributing’ U.S. Senator, working across the aisle, for 20 years. Governor Palin will learn the details of the current national and international issues … but, what Obama never learned is Character. He can’t be trusted … ask Jeremiah Wright, Rezko and Ayers. The American people can recognize ‘real’ character and integrity in McCain and Palin, and that’s why she won the debate by 87% on the FOX text messaging poll.

JOE BIDEN’S 14 LIES TOLD AT THE DEBATE WITH PALIN:

    1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted “the exact same way” as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.

    2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.

    3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, “Drill we must.” But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to “raping” the Outer Continental Shelf.”

    4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, that the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of it’s passage.

    5. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says he’s always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.

    6. ALERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: According to FactCheck.org, Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain’s record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.

    7. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people’s health insurance coverage — they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false

    8. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska — she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it’s not a windfall profits tax.

    9. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. MCKIERNAN COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan, but the commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D. McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes, that could be applied in Afghanistan.

    10. REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation — he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.

    11. IRAQ: When Joe Biden lied when he said that John McCain was “dead wrong on Iraq”, because Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war and differed on the surge strategy where they John McCain has been proven right.

    12. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn’t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.

    13. BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesn’t meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of “part of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20.”

    14. REAGAN TAX RATES: Biden is wrong in saying that under Obama, Americans won’t pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan.

    Sarah Palin is yummy!

    MmMmmmm……….delicious!

Makes me want to vote republican so I can picture that VPILF all the time!

    Gimme some more PALIN please!!!

I thought Sarah Palin did a wonderful job! Who cares if she didn’t get boged down in details? I don’t care about nitpicky details. I like how she cut through the mumbo jumbo and just talked like one of us. One of the very ignorant us!

I don’t care if she didn’t answer questions! I don’t answer questions all the time! Nevermind that a debate is about asking questions and answering questions the moderator brings up! Who’s got time for questions when you’re so busy being folksy and speaking memorized lines! Who cares if she DID avoid questions by talking about topics that had nothing to do with the subject at hand? Scripts don’t allow for no ad-libbing on details! You think you liberal Hollywood elite types would already know that!

And as proof she won this debate, please go to the poll on Fox News! Don’t worry, there’s no chance the poll results are skewed towards the conservative base that frequents Fox News! Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!

She had such a wonderful strategy! Take Joe Bidens answers and agree with them! Even though she made the mistake of getting caught supporting Obama/Biden campaign stances of bankruptcy reform for home foreclosures, I’m sure that’s just part of her folksy charm! Who doesn’t love the impish rapscallion VP nominee that doesn’t even know the stances of her own ticket? That’s what mavericks do! You can’t expect her to toe the line! She’s a maverick, and sometimes mavericks gotta steal talking points from the other party!

And didn’t you just love it when she gave shout out to the next generations Joe sixpack in elementary school? Think of how great that line would have been if it didn’t sound completely rehearsed!
