The War on Christmas!

Published by allykat at 3:18 pm under America, Religion Edit This

The war against Christmas is getting stronger and all for more sales.

The American Humanist Association wants to put advertising signs on buses starting next week in Washington D.C. that reads: “Why Believe in a God? Just be Good for Goodness’ Sake”(foxnews.com).

I find this insulting. They are insulting God! All for sales.

Tim Wildmon from the American Family Association stated, “How do we define ‘good’ if we don’t believe in God? God in his word, the Bible, tells us what’s good and bad and right and wrong. If we are each ourselves defining what’s good, it’s going to be a crazy world.”Keep Jesus Christ in Christmas Billboard sign

They say, it is for the people that are atheist, so they will not feel insulted. Why do they feel insulted? And why didn’t the sign just say: “Just be Good for Goodness’ Sake.” The sign does not even need to question people’s belief in God.

Also, “Last month, the British Humanist Association caused a ruckus announcing a similar campaign on London buses with the message: “There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life”(foxnews.com).

Christmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. It should not be treated in such a disregard to people who believe.

I think that people who believe in God have been silent over the years as Christmas is being taken out of everything more and more. Well, it is time to fight back. Why do we let the minority of America who do not believe in God step on God the way they do?

“A Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life poll from early this year found that 92% of Americans believe in God”(foxnews.com).

The American Family Association has been fighting back! They even have a list of stores that recognizes Christmas and stores that do not, click here.  They also have buttons and stickers that you can buy that say, “It’s Ok to say Merry Christmas.” Buy a bunch and give them to your friends. You can even buy a large pack and donate them to your church. If we wear these buttons the whole Christmas season, hopefully we will make a difference!

The AFA also states: “Some might think simply wearing a button or displaying a Glossy Sticker is a small thing, but God can use small things to make a big point, and to create opportunities to share the Good News. And what a great time to do that at Christmas!”

Isn’t it more Christlike to promote taking Christmas OUT of the stores and the malls and advertising and the big promotions and the credit cards?

Why should a money-hungry store have to “recognize Christmas”? Isn’t that the worst possible thing to link to Jesus? Christ and Mammon, all partner-like and stuff? Do you really WANT him linked to all that greed and money-grubbing and braying mall music and fake Santas and holly jolly stuff?

Far, far, far better that Christians recognize Jesus’ teachings of humility and charity and doing good deeds behind the scenes and praying quietly in their closets and loving their neighbours as themselves and turning the other cheek and giving the needy not only their jacket but their shirt also. Don’t you think that’s what Jesus would prefer?

I just don’t see Adam Smith as a Christmas prophet, somehow.

I don’t celebrate Christmas and I don’t blindly believe an omnipotent, all-powerful being created the universe. I also don’t kill, rape, or steal. Morality is taught by society. So, be good for goodness’ sake.

I think Atheists can be just as pushy and hatefully indignant as Fundamentalists.

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. I love the decorations and the shopping and I also love the church services and plays too.

Billfinger- I feel sorry for anyone who doesnt celebrate the season. Even if you dont believe in God, dont you enjoy the festivities? And I dont believe morals are taught by society. I believe they are taught to us by our families.

Yes Christmas is a time to celebrate the joy of Christ. But it is also a time to celebrate family, friends, love and togetherness.
