America’s Win in Iraq

Winning Isn’t News

By INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY

“Iraq: What would happen if the U.S. won a war but the media didn’t tell the American public? Apparently, we have to rely on a British newspaper for the news that we’ve defeated the last remnants of al-Qaida in Iraq.

London’s Sunday Times called it “the culmination of one of the most spectacular victories of the war on terror.” A terrorist force that once numbered more than 12,000, with strongholds in the West and central regions of Iraq, has over two years been reduced to a mere 1,200 fighters, backed against the wall in the northern city of Mosul.

The destruction of al-Qaida in Iraq (AQI) is one of the most unlikely and unforeseen events in the long history of American warfare. We can thank President Bush’s surge strategy, in which he bucked both Republican and Democratic leaders in Washington by increasing our forces there instead of surrendering.

We can also thank the leadership of the new general he placed in charge there, David Petraeus, who may be the foremost expert in the world on counter-insurgency warfare. And we can thank those serving in our military in Iraq who engaged local Iraqi tribal leaders and convince d them America was their friend and Al-Quida their enemy.

Al-Qaida’s loss of the hearts and minds of ordinary Iraqis began in Anbar Province, which had been written off as a basket case, and spread out from there.

Now, in Operation Lion’s Roar the Iraqi army and the U.S. 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment is destroying the fraction of terrorists who are left. More than 1,000 AQI operatives have already been apprehended.

Sunday Times (London) reporter Marie Colvin, traveling with Iraqi forces in Mosul, found little AQI presence even in bullet-ridden residential areas that were once insurgency strongholds, and reported that the terrorists have lost control of its Mosul urban base, with what is left of the organization having fled south into the countryside.

Meanwhile, the State Department reports that Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s government has achieved ’satisfactory’ progress on 15 of the 18 political benchmarks ‘a big change for the better from a year ago.’

Things are going so well that Maliki has even for the first time floated the idea of a timetable for withdrawal of American forces. He did so while visiting the United Arab Emirates, which over the weekend announced that it was forgiving almost $7 billion of debt owed by Baghdad, an impressive vote of confidence from a fellow Arab State in the future of a free Iraq.

But where are the headlines and the front-page stories about all this good news? As the Media Research Center pointed out, ‘the CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News and CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 were silent about the benchmarks ‘that signaled political progress.’

The war in Iraq has been turned around 180 degrees both militarily and politically because the president stuck to his guns. Yet apart from IBD, Fox News Channel and parts of the foreign press, the media don’t seem to consider this historic event a big story.

Addendum: The reason you haven’t seen this on American television or read about it in the American press is simple–journalism is ‘dead’ in this country. They are controlled by Liberal Democrats who would rather see our troops defeated than recognize a successful Republican initiated response to 9/11.

Media probably are holding ’til after coronation of BHO in order to give him credit.
God bless our troops, God bless our current President and God bless the U.S.A.”

Yes we won in Iraq, but the mainstream Liberal media fails to report this great historical news. We all know that the mainstream media is in love with Obama and is waiting to give him credit. What about our soldiers? How do they feel about not receiving any winning recognition for putting their lives on the line? We won the anti-Saddam War, the anti-al Qaeda/Insurgency War, and the anti-civil war War.

The majority of Liberals and the Liberal media do not want America to win, is what it comes down too. They think that it was our fault that American-hating Islamic terrorists attacked us. That and they do not even like the word win. Well, America Won in Iraq!

God Bless our troops, President Bush, and America!

Wow, if you call this victory I’d hate to see defeat.

There is another theory as to why media hasn’t declared America’s “victory” in Iraq. Guess what that is???

It is hard to savor a victory after having gone after someone under false pretenses. It is tantamount to a guy shooting at a specific individual and hitting an innocent bystander. Victory at the expense of 4000 American lives kind of puts a damper on the celebration. As for the media, the smart ones have distanced themselves from our current President and his failed policies.

So we beat a ragtag group of insurgents who only got together after we invaded their country? Wow! Could I get some freedom fries with that victory cake?

  4. Thomas Jefferson Jron 15 Jan 2009 at 6:32 pm edit this

Yes we WON in Iraq. These were not innocent people that we invaded. These were people under tyranny whose government hated democracy and the USA. They are better off now. In the words of Ann Coulter “”We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity”. I agree! =)

We beat the “ragtag group of insurgents” after we got done beating their national army too. For the second time. Outnumbered both times.

Yep we call that victory, because in the real world you can win and still lose people and have things go wrong.

You think we can’t call it victory because we lost 4000 American lives? We lost over 400,000 lives in World War II.

Some crazy people think we won that one too.

I agree with Thomas Jefferson. I think that after we look back President Bush will be remember for being brave and a good president. By the way, have you noticed all the Obama hoopla lately? He hasnt even done anything yet!

Poor Republican, you’re going to try to have a discussion with me here? Screw you! Unblock me from your blog you censoring pussy.

We lost that war before we even started because we went in under false pretenses and took a secular country and plunged it into goddamned jihad between different groups of theocratic muslims. What a great victory. Hail Bush! Idiots.

Serena, I have lots of friends. Typically political leanings are not a litmus test for me. I can’t help it if I find Poor Republican to be an enormous douche, and that probably wouldn’t change if we were on the same side of the issues. But thanks for the hospitality. I may just drop by.

Serena, sweet jeebus you are hot! I can think of a few ways you could convert me over to the dark side.

While I will happily recognize any progress we have made in Iraq over the past almost 6 years, I will never buy into this “liberal media” conspiracy crap. You people are disgusting. You’ve got blinders on. You’re acting like we said we’d go over there and do something, did it fine and won and yay! Wrong….I’m sorry but it didn’t happen that way.

First Saddam has WMD’s, then we’re going over there to liberate the Iraqis. Oops, what? A country with no government isn’t a paradise? That’s okay, as Rummsfeld says, “stuff happens”. So basically what you’re saying is that we have a complete unmitigated, unembarrassing victory because we MAYBE cleaned up some of the clusterfuck we created when we galloped in and lopped off Saddam’s government, with no plan and no good conception of what would actually happen despite evidence? Wow yeah…that’s great. Good luck.
